Five Flavors Of Dumb Thoughts

Throughout the book, many characters are placed on the spot or the attention is on. Although Piper is the main character of the book, Grace is the most important character because Piper gives much of what she has for Grace.  Piper spends most of her money to give Grace her cochlear implant so she can hear. No matter what the issue Piper always has Grace's back and is there to forgive and forget. One thing that stood out to me is how the band fought a lot but at the end came together. The book was very entertaining and had many important events. I think its weird how pipers best friend  is also def and liked Ed. Pipers dad stands out to me a lot because he was learning how to sign. Also the characters have something in common, They all never give up and that is why the band was successful. The setting also was important is this book. Kallie stood out to me because she got very emotional when she was talking about her past and everything that has happened. If Ed was not a character in this book it really wouldn't have made sense. I'm glad josh left the band and the lead singing became Kallie and she did an amazing job. The book overall was very good and I liked the story line and plot.

Measuring My Learning

What is the purpose of teacher comments on student work?
What kind of comments would be most helpful?
What do you really want to know?
What do you do when you receive a graded assignment?
When do students become interested in revising their work?
Why does interest climax at that point?
At what point does revising most help you actually  learn something?
What is the difference between accruing GUSTO points over the
course of a quarter and asking for “extra credit?

The purpose of teacher comments on student work is to help the students learn their mistakes and to fix them. The teacher expects the student will read the comments and improve his work in the future. The most help full comments are the ones that are thoroughly explained and teach the student the most. I want to know what I do wrong and how to fix certain parts of essays or writing assignments. There isn't really anything I want to about ELA. When I get a graded assignment I usually try to revise it best I can. I always try to improve my grade when I can to create higher grade opportunities. Students become interested in revising their work when they have a low grade and want to improve. They might also want to revise their work when they have a very low grade on an assignment when they can easily do better.

Book Group Report

    • What did you get out of the conversation? (Yes, you have to think of
                            something!)
    • How did the ideas/passages shared “grow” your thinking about the book?
    • What ideas were the most most interesting, thought-provoking,
                  reaction-inspiring,etc. ?
    • What information do you understand now in a different way?
    • What ideas were mentioned that you had not considered before the
                  conversation?

I got a lot out of my book group conversation; ideas about the plot, theme, and predictions about events. I learned more about the characters and how they react towards one another. The ideas and passages we shared helped me glow my thinking towards the book.

Profanity Thoughts

I think profanity is sometimes needed in books but not constantly. It gives emphasis on certain parts of the book, but also ruins some books if used wrong. So, yes profanity is acceptable if realistic. If a book includes large amounts of profanity then it ruins the book if inserted incorrectly. Depending on the use of profanity I would read the book if it is used correctly. Some movies and sometimes books littered with profanity can sometimes make the reader or viewer laugh when used correctly. I feel that profanity can sometimes be good but can also be bad and hurtful to the reader or viewer. People who use profanity like Eddie Murphy and Kevin Hart over use in their stand up committees which can be very funny and is most of the time. When bad people use it as a racial word to offend someone it can be very hurtful. So, again profanity when over used can be funny if used correctly, but if used slightly and not harmful it can be funny too and interesting. But, when used incorrectly and hurtful can be harmful to some people.
